Delicious banana bread – a classic American recipe

As early as August! I intend to proceed with my vacation culture trip around the English-speaking countries and as far as my inspirations are concerned I am showcasing you both standard and a majestic recipe for a classical American delicacy. I must admit that I had not tried this baking until I prepared it a week ago! I truly ensure you that you will not regret it.

Banana bread is a kind of a cake in the shape of bread which is made from bananas, flour, baking powder, butter, eggs salt and sugar. This baking has been extremely well-known and popularised in the USA since 1950. A number of people profoundly consider that banana cake revolutionised the country during the Great Depression in the USA. The housewives did not long for deprive any food scraps and leftovers so they set up an ideal and mouth-watering dish for the entire family.

However, the primary reference about a cake made of mashed yellow and brown bananas was published in an American cookbook at the beginning of ’30s.

What is more, banana bread may say proudly about having its own celebration. The inhabitants of the States solemnise the Banana Bread Day on 23rd February! Do not forget to keep that date in your daily journals!

Banana bread

  • 3 mashed over-ripped bananas
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsps baking powder
  • 100g soft butter
  • pinch of salt

Firstly, whisk soft butter using a blender or a mixer. Add gradually some sugar, a pinch of salt and mix it together using your kitchen appliance. After having it well-combined, add eggs and whisk it until the mixture smooths, doubles its size and whitens. Add bananas and stir. Put sieved flour and baking powder into the batter. Let the dense mixture rest for a couple of minutes. Preheat the oven. Take a cake tin. Use a piece of parchment paper to lay it out. Take a wooden spoon and place the batter into the tin forming a bread-shape cake. Bake it in 180C degrees for 35-40 minutes.

Banana bread – my healthy way

  • 3 mashed over-ripped bananas
  • 1 banana, peeled, cut in half
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsps honey
  • 2 cups oatmeal flour
  • 70g coconut/olive oil
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • a handful of nuts/seeds (e.g. sunflower seeds)

Take a small bowl. Mix mashed bananas with eggs. Pour some oil and honey. Stir it until the batch smooths. Add flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Mix it together. Pour the batter into a cake tin with a parchment paper inside. Put a cut-in-half banana on the top of the bread as a decoration. Sprinkle with some favourite nuts. Bake it in the preheated oven in 180 C degrees for 35-40 min.
